The Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFE) is seeking to appoint an International Sports Event Assistant to support the team.

CAFE works closely with our partners at UEFA, FIFA and other key stakeholders to promote improved access and inclusion for disabled people across football. Using the game’s unique power, we celebrate the many roles disabled people can play within football, including as spectators, players, volunteers, coaches, administrators, leaders and decision makers.

This is an exciting time for the organisation and will give the successful candidate the opportunity to gain experience of working in the sport events, not-for-profit and inclusion industry on a global level.

Whilst not essential, the ability to read and speak Arabic would desirable.

The successful candidate will support the CAFE team in carrying out proof of eligibility checks for disabled ticket applicants for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 for which training will be provided. Additionally, the appointed candidate may be expected to undertake other reasonable tasks as required.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the successful candidate will work closely with the rest of the CAFE team.

CAFE has a diverse range of stakeholders from across the world, including sports governing bodies, national associations, leagues, clubs, equality/disability NGOs and fans groups, together with disabled supporter groups, individual disabled fans and their advocates.

The CAFE team works from home. Depending on the location of the successful applicant, training may be offered in person. If travel is required, reasonable expenses will be covered by CAFE.

Key responsibilities

  • Carrying out Proof of Eligibility checks of ticket applicants
  • Carrying out research to validate Proof of Eligibility forms
  • Creating/ updating spreadsheets with information on applications that require more information
  • Liaising with the rest of the CAFE team to complete Proof of Eligibility checks
  • Liaising with FIFA and Qatar 2022 on a regular basis
  • Updating CAFE research documents with new types of Proof of Eligibility records

Additional responsibilities linked to international sport events, including the FIFA World Cup 2022, UEFA Club Competition Finals and UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 may also be offered to the successful candidate, subject to their availability.

  • Computer literate with experience of working with Microsoft Office
  • Good communication skills

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Adaptable

Desirable:

  • Ability to speak and read Arabic and other languages e.g., Russian
  • An understanding of the social model of disability
  • Previous experience of working in sport or disability
