On Tuesday 21 October, Manchester City provided Audio-Descriptive Commentary (ADC) for their supporters live from the Etihad Stadium as the first team took on FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League.

Since the last home game of the 2019-20 Premier league campaign against Norwich City, Manchester City have provided ADC for disabled fans via Microsoft Teams.

Streamed Live from the Etihad Stadium, regular matchday commentators Paul and Andrew deliver ADC to blind and partially sighted fans as they have done for over two decades.

The Teams event allows fans who would usually use the club's offering of ADC via a headset in the stadium, to continue to follow their side's progress at every home game despite regulations in place caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Starting 15 minutes before kick-off, Paul and Andrew deliver both halves, continue to discuss the game through half-time and for a further 10 minutes after the final whistle. In constant communication with Manchester City Access Manager Jon Dyster and Access Advisor Natalie Whittaker, who produce the events, the commentators also provide updates of scores elsewhere.

Approximately 25% of the regular ADC season ticket holder base have used the service so far with feedback being extremely positive.

One fan commented: “I was delighted when the Access Team were able to provide a commentary of live first team home games during the current health crisis, through my P.C.

“The commentary last night, as usual, was an excellent combination of game description and summarising comments, plus comments that a City fan would make about the players, manager and club.

It is as if I were sitting next to knowledgeable fans, describing to me the game and related topics.  This enables me to imagine the game as if I were sitting in my seat in the stadium.”

Another Manchester City fan and ADC user added: “I appreciate you putting on the game last night and would like to say a big thank you for doing that at this time. I appreciate all your hard work.

Tell Andrew and Paul I love their commentary, made me feel like I was at the game.”
