Residents of Qatar are urged to apply for CAFE's commentary training programme, to have the opportunity to commentate at the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

In partnership with the Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII), CAFE is delivering a commentary training programme to provide an opportunity for selected candidates to learn the skill and provide commentary at the tournament.

No prior experience of commentating is required. The service will be available in both Arabic and English so this is the perfect opportunity for Qatari residents with a passion for football to get involved in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Find out more and apply to take part in the training programme today!

The training will take place at the Hamad bin Khalifa University in Doha, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Training will be delivered to small groups, between 4:00 – 7:00 pm from Sundays to Thursdays, and specific training sessions will be held on Saturdays (time to be arranged with participants).

Applicants must submit a 60-second audio recording of themselves commentating over a football clip of their choice, in English or Arabic. Candidates will be admitted to the training on the basis of their overall aptitude for commentating. Applications will not be judged on the quality of the audio recording, i.e. no professional recording is required.

Successful candidates will be given the opportunity to take part in the full training programme and to have a chance of commentating at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Our service, known as audio-descriptive commentary (ADC) has been implemented at many other major sporting events and is designed to primarily support partially sighted and blind people in enjoying a live match experience. Being able to listen to ADC can have a life-changing impact for many disabled people, and offers many great opportunities to the commentators.
