In light of UEFA’s announcement regarding the postponement of UEFA EURO 2020, CAFE has published an updated statement on the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

UEFA EURO 2020 will now take place between 11 June and 11 July 2021, with playoff matches to be played in June 2020 subject to a review of the current situation.

CAFE shares UEFA’s belief that the health of all those involved in the game – players, fans and those working within the game – is the top priority and it would be wrong to place any unnecessary pressure on national public services at this time.

We would also like to commend UEFA’s decision to take such important and necessary action. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said, “Purpose over profit has been our guiding principle in taking this decision for the good of European football as a whole”, and CAFE echoes this message.

Existing ticket holders for UEFA EURO 2020, including accessibility ticket holders, will be entitled to a full refund if they are not able to attend the rearranged tournament next year. Within the next month, further information on the refund process will be communicated to existing ticket buyers via email and on euro2020.com/tickets.

UEFA’s statement can be read in full here.

The vast majority of domestic football competitions remain suspended across Europe, and CAFE will continue to work with our partners and networks in each member association to offer our support, advice and guidance.

We urge all of our friends, partners and stakeholders not to take any unnecessary risks during this outbreak, and follow advice from governments and local authorities on public events and travel.

In particular, we would like to stress the importance of following guidance on personal hygiene, social distancing and travelling only when necessary.

Further advice and guidance has been published by the World Health Organization, which can be found here.

CAFE is also reaching out to all successful CAFE Week of Action small grant applicants with more information regarding their planned activities. We would like to thank everyone who took part in this season’s initiative, or had their plans affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

We plan to publish further information about this season’s CAFE Week of Action campaign, and announce the dates for next season’s celebration, later this year.

Following advice from local governments, the CAFE team will be working remotely until further notice. If you need to contact CAFE during this time, please do so by telephone: +44(0)208 065 5108 or by email to [email protected].

In the meantime, we encourage all of our networks to stay safe and support each other in preventing the further spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
