CAFE has published a case study in partnership with AC Milan, outlining the steps taken by the club to implement its audio-descriptive commentary service.

Audio-descriptive commentary (ADC) is an inclusive service that supports partially sighted and blind fans in enjoying an inclusive matchday experience. The trained commentator will deliver a far more detailed description of the match, atmosphere and surrounding ambience, as well as any other visual information that other fans may take for granted.

ADC ensures that the listener has a complete understanding of the match he or she is attending, and is able to more fully enjoy the matchday experience in real time alongside their fellow fans.

As part of the club’s wider aim to improve the matchday experience of all disabled fans, AC Milan commissioned CAFE’s expert ADC Network and training programme to teach local trainees how to deliver the inclusive service.

The case study outlines the key steps in the decision-making process, all the way through to the implementation and launch of the service at live matches. AC Milan are continuing to develop the service, and the case study also explores the plans that the club has to ensure even more partially sighted and blind fans can tune in.

Audio-descriptive commentary is a relatively quick and low-cost solution that can introduce a whole generation of new fans to your stadium. The service is particularly useful for partially sighted and blind fans, but many other disabled and non-disabled supporters can also benefit from and enjoy ADC as a supplement to their typical matchday experience.

We would like to thank AC Milan, their Stadium Development Director Manager Marco Lomazzi and CSR Manager Martino Roghi for working with CAFE to develop the service and this case study, and we look forward to working together as the club continues to develop its accessibility strategy.
