A Union Berlin supporter is preparing to walk almost 500km to an upcoming match to raise funds for the club’s disabled supporters.

Sascha Koschitzke has pledged to walk from Berlin to Nurnberg – a distance of 488km – and is inviting people to sponsor each stage of the trip.

The walk has been organised in memory of Janine Jänicke, the former Disability Access Officer of Union Berlin who recently passed away following a motorcycle accident. Janine was herself a well-known disabled football fan and was a member of HFCFN – a disabled supporters group that follows the German national team.

Janine was a strong advocate of disabled fans at Union Berlin, and all sponsorship money raised will pay for a trip to an away match for the club’s disabled fans.

The match in Nurnberg takes place on 30 September, and Sascha’s walk is well underway.

Good luck Sascha!
