The CAFE team was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Elvin Rustamov, a CAFE-certified audio-descriptive commentator from Azerbaijan, at the age of 31.

Elvin had taken part in two CAFE audio-descriptive commentary (ADC) training programmes, receiving his ceritification in 2019 ahead of providing ADC at that year's UEFA Europa League Final.

Elvin was also selected to commentate at every UEFA EURO 2020 match played in Baku, alongside his commentary partner Yusif Qasimov. He later continued to provide commentary in Azerbaijan and was developing a very exciting career path.

CAFE Media and Communications Manager Michael Rice, who manages our works around ADC, said, "The news of Elvin's passing came as a huge shock to all of us. Elvin was an enormous character, and so passionate about the work that he was doing. He was a big part of the ADC family we are building, and I enjoyed many great conversations with Elvin around UEFA EURO 2020. His immensely positive personality will never be forgotten".

Alan March, who delivered Elvin's trainings as part of the CAFE ADC Network, said, "Elvin came to our course with no experience but boundless energy and enthusiasm. He was football mad and his success on our course turned into a dream for him in 2021, when he started commentating on football matches on TV. He wrote to me in October 2021 to thank me for helping him achieve his dream".

"Live your life every day. The ones we love can leave us in the blink of an eye. Chase the dreams. Savour the moments. Hold on to those you love. Rest in peace Elvin", added Alan.

Through Elvin's work, countless partially sighted and blind fans have been able to enjoy live football alongside their fellow fans. His legacy will continue to be felt for a long time to come.

Our thoughts are with all of Elvin's family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace Elvin, we will never forget you.
