CAFE is proud to work alongside UEFA, Healthy Stadia, the World Heart Federation (WHF) and the wider football family across Europe to support World Heart Day 2020.

Each year World Heart Day is celebrated on 29 September to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes heart disease and stroke.

This year the campaign focuses on the Covid-19 pandemic, with research identifying links between underlying health conditions, such as heart disease and stroke, and worse health outcomes associated with coronavirus. This means that is is imperative we all protect our hearts.

Over half of UEFA's Member Associations are taking part in the campaign again this year, as Healthy Stadia highlights the importance of making simple changes to our lifestyles to lower the burden of cardiovascular disease. This includes more exercise, eating a balanced diet and stopping smoking.

Cardiovascular disease is responsible for 17.9 million deaths per year, making it the world's leading cause of death.

UEFA and Healthy Stadia have supported the World Heart Federation initiative for a number of years, helping Member Associations, clubs and stadia ensure a healthy matchday environment.

Once again this year, Healthy Stadia has developed bespoke resources to support the football family in promoting World Heart Day through social media, matchday activities and organisational actions such as bike to work schemes or no smoking policies.
