The Parliament of Poland has voted in favour of an Act adopting 2013 as the Year of Disabled People.

The Parliament's decision regarding next year's celebration was accompanied by an appeal to all citizens and public institutions to take actions aiming to introduce the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People. The Convention has been signed by polish President Bronislaw Komorowski in September 2012. Special focus has been put on creating accessible and equal environments for disabled people’s social activity and assess to public goods.

The Convention introduced the social model of disability to Polish regulations - that people become 'disabled' by barriers placed before them by society. CAFE promotes the social model, and look forward to celebrating the Year of Disabled People in Poland.
