CAFE VISITS POLAND TO EVALUATE THE PROGRESS OF PREPARATIONS FOR DISABLED SUPPORTERS NEEDS FOR - EURO 2012

On May 11-13, 2010 CAFE visited Warsaw, Poland to meet Polish officials responsible for the coordination of the stadia construction and other surrounding infrastructure to make sure that disabled fans will be provided with all the necessary facilities for visiting EURO 2012.

On May 12th, CAFE had a meeting with PL.2012 which is a government agency that oversees and coordinates Poland’s preparation for the tournament. PL.2012 is working closely with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, UEFA, the Polish FA and representatives of the Ukraine, and coordinates the work of host city organizational bodies. PL.2012 made a brief overview on the current status of host stadia construction with the focus on adoption of the stadium for the needs of disabled fans, number of disabled seats and other facilities.

On May 13th, CAFE met Integracja, a Polish non-governmental organization that represents the interests of people affected by disability. At Integracja they know first-hand the challenges faced by disabled people in Poland and use their own resources to raise social awareness, like a dedicated TV programme, magazines, special events, etc.  A TV spot with a CAFE interview was broadcast on 15th May 2010 on theirs Saturday show.

CAFE will work closely with Integracja using CAFE’s  expertise in the  field of accessible stadia, sharing its best practices and encouraging more disabled fans in Poland to visit football matches and follow their team abroad.

The CAFE visit to Poland aroused quite an interest among the local and national media including Panorama news, Polsat news and Cyfra +.

It can be summarized that both groups showed a commitment and understanding to the work that needs to be done to reach our aims of improving the quality of the experience of football for all disabled fans. Therefore CAFE’s visit in Poland inspires us to follow our way and be persistent in reaching our goals.-

We would like to take this opportunity to thank both organizations for their very warm welcome and good hospitality and hope to cement future collaboration.
