Manchester United FC generously supporting the Level Playing Field Weeks of Action 2016
Manchester United has shown an amazing commitment to this year’s campaign in England and Wales by generously donating Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action banners to each Premier League & Championship club.
This welcome gesture means that banners will be on display around the grounds to promote access and inclusion and to celebrate disabled fans across England and Wales.
This year’s LPF Weeks of Action kick off on Saturday 2 April with a range of activities and events taking place at clubs and venues across England and Wales over a 2 week period.
Joyce Cook OBE, Chair of Level Playing Field, said, ‘We were delighted when Manchester United approached us to offer their support and the club has been amazing in helping us to make this happen. We have run this campaign for more than a decade with no funding and were blown away by their generous offer. It is a hugely positive endorsement for our campaign and is helping to ensure that clubs around the country have the materials they need during the celebrations”.
A spokesperson for Manchester United said, ‘As part of our commitment to improving access and inclusion for all fans, we were delighted to step in. We look forward to seeing the banners displayed at clubs across the Premier League and Championship over the next 2 weeks as we all come together to celebrate the Level Playing Field Weeks of Action.”
LPF’s Weeks of Action were established in 2005 to help highlight the positive initiatives undertaken by clubs, sporting venues and their governing bodies in partnership with disabled sports fans and disabled supporters associations.
Disabled people constitute the largest minority group in any population, and the Level Playing Field Weeks of Action are an annual celebration of disabled sports fans and their advocates. LPF aims to improve access and inclusion across the game to help ensure that disabled people can take their rightful places as fans, guests, volunteers, employees, coaches and players, and as leaders and decision makers.
Level Playing Field is hosting its annual Weeks of Action to coincide with the CAFE Week of Action - Total Football Total Access - for the first time. Clubs across the Premier League, Football League and National Leagues will be taking part in a range of activities and events to promote access and inclusion for disabled people in football.
