Disabled fan wins Goal of the Month in Scotland with 97% of vote
We reported earlier this month that Jay Beatty, an 11-year old disabled Celtic fan, had been shortlisted for January's Goal of the Month competition in Scotland.
Jay had been invited onto the pitch at half-time in the match between Hamilton and Celtic, and scored a penalty in front of his fellow Celtic fans. The crowd erupted into chants of "There's Only One Jay Beatty" and "Oh Jay We Love You" as he celebrated on the pitch. His goal was one of ten contenders shortlisted for the award.
Jay's hero, former Celtic striker Georgios Samaras, announced that Jay's goal had emphatically won the competition as Jay watched on television. Samaras said, "Jay my friend, you and me we're the same now, scoring goals. I'm very happy to announce you won the goal of the month. Well done pal, great job. I miss you and I love you".
Martin Beatty, Jay's father, said that Jay had hoped Celtic defender Mikael Lustig would win the award. Lustig would go on to say that Jay was the worthy winner, and he was happy to take second place.
Congratulations Jay on a fantastic achievement and an unforgettable experience!
