Chairman of Board of Directors and Trustees

 

David Bernstein is the Chairman of the Centre for Access to Football in Europe. David is also the President of CAFE’s partner organisation in England and Wales, Level Playing Field.

 

David is a vastly experienced football director. He is the former Chairman of the Football Association, Wembley National Stadium and Manchester City FC, and is a current Board Member of Aston Villa FC.

 

As a Director of the Wembley National Stadium Board for 5 years, David played an integral role in the successful delivery and opening of the fully accessible stadium and in June 2008 he was appointed Chairman. David became Chairman of the FA in 2011 before retiring in 2013.

 

David is also Chairman of the British Red Cross and was awarded a CBE in 2014 for his services to football. 

Joyce Cook

Joyce Cook, OBE

Joyce Cook is the founding and Managing Director of the Centre for Access to Football in Europe (CAFE) and Chair of Level Playing Field, CAFE’s sister organisation in England and Wales.

 

Joyce is also a member of the Football Association's Inclusivity Advisory Board, and a Board Member of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.

 

 Furthermore, Joyce is a board member at Fare (Football Against Racism in Europe) and a Director of Women in Football. She is an expert on accessible stadia and the built environment for sporting events and provides specialist advice to UEFA and FIFA, and is the author of the UEFA and CAFE Good Practice Guide to Creating an Accessible Stadium and Matchday Experience – Access for All. Joyce is also a graduate of UEFA’s Women in Football Leadership programme 2014 and is now a mentor on the programme.

 

 Joyce was a member of the London 2012 Olympic Delivery Authority's Built Environment Access Panel and a consultant to LOCOG. She is also an expert advisor to EPAS, the Council of Europe and its Disability Committees on Sport and Women and Girls.

 

 In 2012 Joyce was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to disabled football supporters in the UK. Joyce is based in our London Head Office and oversees the day-to-day running of CAFE.

Lord Richard Faulkner of Worcester

A member of the House of Lords (UK) since 1999, Lord Faulkner was a co-founder of the Football Trust, (now the Football Foundation) and is a previous Deputy Chairman of the the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff (the national stadium of Wales).

 

Richard is a Vice President of the Football Conference, and of the Campaign for Better Transport Ltd (formerly Transport 2000) and a Patron of The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. He was a minister in the previous government and is now a Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords.

 

He was a co-author and vice-chairman of the 1998 Football Task Force Report in England which made recommendations on improvements to facilities for disabled supporters. Richard is also a Trustee of the Foundation for Sport and the Arts (UK).

Lord Rosser was General Secretary of the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association from 1989 until his retirement in 2004, following which he was made a life peer later that year.

 

A lifelong football fan with a particular interest in the non-league game, he is also Vice President of the Ryman Isthmian Football League and a member of the All Party Parliamentary Football Group. Lord Rosser is a Non-Executive Director of the National Offender Management Service Board and has been a Justice of the Peace for more than 30 years.

 

Lord Rosser is a LPF Vice President.

David Davies OBE

David Davies OBE

David Davies OBE served The Football Association through 13 often turbulent years as its Executive Director until his retirement in 2006. He worked closely with England managers Terry Venables, Glenn Hoddle, Kevin Keegan and Sven Goran Eriksson, and is well known in football at home and abroad, where he has held various positions at UEFA and FIFA.

 

In 2010 he was Senior Advisor to the CEO of the South Africa FIFA World Cup, Dr Danny Jordaan. Today David is a Sports and Media Consultant with roles inside and outside football including work with Lord Sebastian Coe on the international legacy of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics of which he was an early champion. He was also a founder member of the anti racism “Kick It Out” campaign.

 

Davies' early career was spent as a Presenter / Correspondent with BBC Television and he regularly contributes to radio and television programmes today. He was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to sport.

Irina Bernstein

Irina is an in-house lawyer at the London South Bank University and deals with a wide range of commercial, governance and student issues. 

 

Previously, she worked in private practice and qualified as an employment solicitor.  Irina is of Ukrainian origin and is fluent in Russian, Ukrainian and German. 

 

She has been providing support to CAFE since its formation and focuses in particular on CAFE’s Eastern European initiatives
