AZ Alkmaar supporters welcome Austria Wien

8 November 2011

CAFE Western European Development Officer Keith Ferguson recently travelled to the AFAS Stadion, the home of AZ Alkmaar, to watch a UEFA Europa League tie between AZ and Austria Wien.

At the game, Keith spoke with Austrian supporters Rudolf Reisinger, a wheelchair user, and his PA Stefan Leinter. Keith was delighted to hear that both had managed to travel to the stadium with minimal hassle.

Upon entering the stadium Rudolf was directed to the very end of the wheelchair section, leaving a big gap between him and his fellow Austria Wien supporters. Rudolf decided to move closer to the half way line so that he could have a better view, and was warmly welcomed by the AZ supporters already there. Handshakes and beers were shared, as were the spoils with the tie finishing 2-2.

We would like to commend the AZ Alkmaar supporters for being so welcoming to Rudolf and Stefan, and wish both sets of supporters the very best for the rest of the competition!
