We (Marion Hersh and Barbara Leporini) are respectively a senior lecturer at the University of Glasgow, Scotland and a researcher at IST-CNR, Italy. We are carrying out joint research on the accessibility and usability for disabled students of educational materials, including computer-based games. There is increasing interest in the use of computer-based games in education, but few studies of the experiences of disabled students in using them and the accessibility and usability issues they raise.
This research is aimed at filling this gap. This short questionnaire is being sent to teachers, lecturers, tutors and educational experts. There is another version for disabled students, recent students and parents of disabled students. The results will be published in a book chapter and also possibly at a conference on assistive technology in October this year.
The questionnaire is anonymous and the results are confidential to the two of us. Only statistical data will be published and nothing that can identify any individuals.
The questionnaire has 3 sections. Section A asks for personal information for statistical purposes. Section B is about your use of computer-based games. Section C allows you to provide additional comments and suggestions. The questionnaire should take 10 – 20 minutes to complete, depending on whether you use any access technology.
Most of the questions are in multiple choice format. The number of options is given in brackets after the question and where appropriate ‘other’ or ‘I am not sure’ options are provided. There are also a few open response questions and questions that allow you to mark more than one option. Please mark your chosen response(s) for multiple choice questions with an ‘x’.
We would be grateful if you could complete the questionnaire and return it to one or other of us by email to
