Rolly Side & FC Groningen welkom CAFE

19 April 2011

I made the long journey to Groningen in the North of the Netherlands at the invitation of the club and Rolly Side, the disabled supporters’ association and it was well worth the visit. Rolly Side was formed 5 years ago to coincide with the decision to build a new stadium at FC Groningen. There has been a great working relationship between Rolly Side and the club from the very beginning. This strong partnership continues to this day and ensures that new ideas and access improvements to the club’s facilities and services are always being reviewed.

Rolly Side is well organised and has a pan-disability membership. The group are also involved in some local community projects alongside supporting the football club.

There is a large wheelchair area which is under cover and elevated behind one of the goals. The club’s hospitality lounges are also accessible to disabled fans who wish to buy hospitality tickets including some of the members of Rolly Side.

In the below picture taken at the stadium are from left to right; Jaap Aalderink (FC Groningen), Matthias Mulder (FC Groningen Veiligheidscoördinator (Safety) ) , Heihe ten Hoove (Treasurer of Rolly Side), Keith Ferguson (CAFE – that’s me smiley) and Johan ten Hoove (Secretary of Rolly Side).
