New Accessible area for away fans at St. Johnstone

19 April 2011

It gives me personal pleasure to report on the opening of the new area at the recent St.Johnstone v Kilmarnock match. When I first started working for CAFE this issue was already known to me and I raised the matter with the club to try and resolve. Things started to move when Grant Cullen was appointed General Manager of St.Johnstone in the summer of 2010. Pictured below before the game is Grant and myself along with a group of Kilmarnock disabled supporters using the facility for the first time.

The best design options were looked at with the plans drawn up and planning permission granted, however the severe winter weather in the latter part of 2010 delayed construction.Work then had to be re-scheduled taking into account St Johnstone's fixture list backlog following the exceptionally bad winter.

The good news is that the new disabled fans area was opened and ready for use on 2nd April 2011. The improvements include new car parking spaces which are located next to the accessible stadium entrance which in turn leads directly to the new disabled fans area and a brand new accessible toilet which has been installed on the same level.

The game itself ended 0-0, however as you can see from the photograph taken at the end of the match Peter Orr (secretary of Kilmarnock DSA) and Gary Clelland (interim chairman of the SDSA) were pleased to have experienced the new set up. Additional photographs may be found on our St.Johnstone stadium report web page.
