Advocacy – a Human Right?
Monday 18 April 2011, 10.00am – 1.00pm
UNISON Northern Ireland
UNISON Centre, Galway House, 165 York Street, Belfast BT15 1AL.
There is a general lack of awareness around the role of an advocate not only among those involved in commissioning and delivering public services but also among people with disabilities and their families.
This seminar aims to increase awareness of the role of an advocate and to consider how an advocate can support people with disabilities to achieve their human rights.
The seminar will consider:
-the role of an advocate;
-the importance of advocacy services for people with disabilities;
-the right to advocacy for people with disabilities; and
-how an advocate can support people with disabilities to achieve their human rights.
Key note speaker:
Dr. Eilionóir Flynn, Centre for Disability Law and Policy, NUI Galway.
