Scottish Party Leaders Event- article from Gary Clelland

16 February 2011

Keith Ferguson from CAFE - Centre for Access to Football in Europe and myself were invited to the recent Scottish Party Leaders Event, supporting the launch of the Show Bigotry the Red Card project, held at Hibernian F.C. It was also an opportunity to create more awareness in the Scottish footballing family of the newly formed Scottish Disabled Supporters Association and CAFE.

Without interrupting the event there was a chance for me to do some networking ! The First Minister Alex Salmond, MSP (pictured here with Gary, image © Mark Davison) was delighted to hear of the establishment of the SDSA and would like to hear how it develops.

I also spoke to Bill Butler, MSP one of the Sponsors of the event who was also very interested to hear of the SDSA. Support was very positive from all political parties and a lot of good contacts were established. One question which was asked was "could the SDSA share the real experiences of attending a football match from a disabled perspective" and this will certainly be looked at after the next Scottish Election.
