I am really pleased to be moving on with CAFE from a part time to full time post, and as my new job title reflects, I’ll be covering a new territory including Belgium, France and the Netherlands.
In my first year, I’ve enjoyed being part of the CAFE team helping and helping the charity to go from strength to strength. There’s been great support from fans, clubs and the football authorities in the three "Celtic" countries I’ve been working in, namely Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Scotland. We’ve established new Disabled Supporters Associations at both club and national level with evidence of positive change as these groups start to make a real difference. One of things I was already aware of, however this has been more than re-enforced in my first year, is that disabled football fans are the real experts on access issues. The clubs should use this expertise and resource as much as possible as the way forward and as it creates a win-win situation.
I would like to hear from fans in Belgium, France and the Netherlands who are keen to get involved in setting up their own disabled fans groups, working with their clubs and in raising awareness and am happy to meet up with you locally in the very near future.
