YOOLA started 2 years ago the negotiation to provide disabled friendly packages to French soccer fans. It was not easy, because of the limited social awareness round disability.
On 9 June our first group including electric and manual wheelchair users and their companions arrived in Cape Town. We visited the mother city and enjoyed the World Cup atmosphere. The problems started when we drove to Green Point stadium where it was lacking of any accessible Parking.
After 20 minutes walking to the stadium we tried to go through the security gate and unfortunately the queue for wheelchair users and other disabled supporters was merged with other supporters. But thanks to our fighting spirit we created our own queue. It was the big problem at this stadium. When we arrived in our seating area, everyone was able to enjoy the view of the pitch. The Wheelchairs users’ seats are not so far from the pitch and we were able to attend the match without any more problems. Forgetting the obstacles on the way to the stadium, we would say that Green Point Stadium is a nice and accessible stadium.

Everyone enjoyed the World Cup from the group matches to the final .I was in South Africa for 1 month, and did have several small problem but overall we found it to be an accessible world cup South African and South African people tried to help us as much as possible. Others stadium I visited (Bloemfontein,Pretoria, Soccer City, Elis Park, Polokwane) were accessible and there was also accessible parking and drop off zone for disabled fans.
Our group of Disabled fans really appreciated South Africa, it was a very good experience and a real disabled friendly.
