22 July 2010

CAFE participated in 3rd European Football Fans’ Congress in Barcelona.

Thumbnail image for P1120034.JPGWith two representatives, Elena and Karolina, CAFE took part in the 3rd European Football Fans’ Congress organized by Football Supporters Europe in Barcelona from 16th-18th July 2010. We had been invited to the congress as a part of the football supporters’ family and to raise awareness among non-disabled fans.

P1130042.JPG Our Easter European Development Officer, Elena Karpukhina, delivered a presentation about our work in Ukraine during the FSE workshop “Emergency Service Needed?! EURO 2012 – A Fans’ Perspective”. This presentation met a positive response from the majority of fans gathered during this workshop. Moreover we were given the opportunity to raise awareness further by setting up our market stand for the disabled fans rights and information about CAFE and our works.

We also demonstrated some of the most common eyes conditions and matched them with simulation glasses to give non-disabled fans an opportunity to better understand some of the various needs and challenges faced by partially sighted and blind supporters. We were happy with the response as a good number of fans stop by our market stand to chat with us and some of them tried out the simulation glasses.

Participation in the FSE EFFC was a great opportunity to meet different supporters groups from around Europe and we tried not to miss any networking chances. With so much positive interest, including contacts with groups from MyRoma from Rome, Italy, Lwy Polnocy from Gdansk, Poland, Zenit from St.Petersburg,Russia, Karpaty from Lviv, Ukraine, Shakhtar from Donetsk, Ukraine and representatives from Czech Republic and Sweden, we hope to extend our cooperation, support and impact in improving the situation for disabled supporters round Europe. We are happy and proud that we had an opportunity to represent disabled supporters during the 3rd European Football Fans’ Congress.
